Serbian Minister for Human and Minority Rights Svetozar Ciplic visited the Matica Srpska Library today and said at the occasion that it is the oldest cultural institute in Serbia and its first public and scientific library, founded in 1826 in Pest, together with the Matica Srpska Literary Society.
Ciplic talked with the head of Matica Srpska Cedomir Popov and said that the institute is exemplary in its cooperation with all the different ethnic groups living in the country and represents a truly European and modern Serbia. He also praised the work methodology and activities of Matica Srpska.
He said that the contributions made by Matica Srpska to national culture will be presented to the public throughout Serbia as part of a series of events marking the upcoming international human rights day.
Cedomir Popov told the Minister about current Srpska Matica projects, which include the compilation of a Serbian encyclopedia.
Representatives of Matica Slovak in Vojvodina and Bunjevacka Matica, with whom Matica Srpska is working on joint projects, also attended the meeting.
