In an interview given to the high profile Greek daily To Vima,
prior to his visit to Athens tomorrow, Cvetkovic said that political and economic relations between Greece and Serbia are excellent and date back many centuries.
He said that he expects that the two countries will intensify economic relations, adding that Greek investments in Serbia to date exceed €2 billion.
He said that this will be his first official visit to Greece, during which he will meet with Greek President Karolos Papoulias and Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis.
Greece and Serbia have an excellent, century’s old political and economic relationship, that has stood the test of time, said the Prime Minister.
Cvetkovic said that economic cooperation needs to develop further in the coming years and there is scope for doing so, particularly in infrastructure projects.
He emphasised that Belgrade owes gratitude to Greece for supporting Serbia’s EU integration road and its consistent policy toward the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo-Metohija.
Greece also supported Serbia's initiative before the UN General Assembly to ask the opinion of the International Court of Justice over the legality of the unilateral declaration of Kosovo-Metohija's independence and for that we are also grateful, Cvetkovic stressed.
Greek investments are mainly in the financial sector, energy and telecommunications, he said.
Cvetkovic said that government priorities are infrastructure projects, including construction of Corridor 10, which is also important for Greece as it will make the road for tourists and investors to Greece easier.
As part of the Hellenic Plan, Greece will give one-off assistance of nearly €100 million to Serbia to complete Corridor 10, he said.
As Serbia now has a good tax incentive system, more Greek investments are expected, Cvetkovic concluded.
