At a press conference marking the Ministry’s first 100 days in office, Dulic announced that from March next year the Ministry will carry out a campaign to raise citizens’ awareness and encourage them to clean their surroundings.
He said that in the first 100 days the Ministry removed 60 illegal facilities found on sites under the state’s protection, which is a result of cooperation between the Ministry and the construction sector.
The joint work of inspectorates and supervisory services in the construction and urbanism sector with the environmental sector yielded the most satisfactory results regarding these issues. Illegal facilities are currently being removed from Lake Zavojsko and afterwards the same will be done at the Uvac and Zlatar Lakes, said Dulic.
He noted that the Ministry has so far sent six laws to parliamentary procedure, among which are the Law on waste management and the Law on packaging and waste.
Another nine laws are being drafted, including the law on planning and construction, which will introduce revolutionary changes, announced Dulic.
He said that the land registry law has been drafted, as well as the first version of the law on assessment of influences on the environment and the strategy for social housing.
According to him, the Ministry is working on 60 bylaws, some of which will deal with the recycling issue.
Only 5% of waste is currently recycled in Serbia out of three million tonnes produced annually, whereas the European recycling average is 55%, stressed Dulic.
He said the Ministry has continued with campaigns from the previous ministry and has achieved considerable results in solving the issue of “black spots” in Serbia, namely, the severe pollution in Bor, Pancevo and the Great Backa Canal.
He stressed that these problems will be solved once the privatisation of companies in these towns is completed.
Dulic also said he hopes that from next year environmental protection will be a non-compulsory subject in elementary and secondary schools, adding that the Ministry has already composed the curriculum.
