At a press conference marking the Ministry’s first 100 days in office, Obradovic said that violence in schools is not a burning issue considering the rather low frequency of such incidents.
However, he stressed, this issue will not be marginalised, adding that decisions must not be made rashly since they concern a huge number of teachers and students.
Obradovic said that one of the Ministry’s greatest achievements in the first 100 days in office is transparency in its work and good communication with the unions.
According to him, the Ministry has had satisfactory cooperation with student representatives and teaching staff at universities.
State Secretary at the Ministry of Education Tinde Kovac-Cerovic announced that the Ministry will determine concrete measures for the prevention of school violence by the end of November.
She said that the measures envisage enhanced work of school policemen as well as educational projects organised in schools.
State Secretary at the Ministry of Education Radivoje Mitrovic recalled that reconstruction of 95 primary schools started last year and will soon be completed.
He added that 25 secondary schools, 23 faculties, 30 primary school and 16 university halls of residence are being renovated.
At today’s press conference Obradovic said that the number of students that will be financed from the state budget will be determined as soon as the universities determine how many of them meet necessary requirements.
He said that all Serbia’s faculties are to submit data on the number of students having 42 points and therefore meeting requirements to enrol in the next year of their studies, as soon as the examination term finishes on November 1.
Serbian parliament last week adopted amendments to the law on higher education, which will enable students to meet requirements before 2010.
Obradovic recalled that students who enrolled in a university during the previous school system, have to graduate before 2011.
