Speaking at a press conference regarding the government’s first 100 days, Samardzic-Markovic said that the most important work done during this period was the drafting of the national youth strategy and finalization of an action plan for its implementation.
She said that Serbia’s national youth strategy was included in the handbook of the Council of Europe as an example of good practice.
The Minister said that an agreement will be signed with representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development and the Norwegian government concerning a donation for a youth entrepreneurship project, one of the measures being taken to support young people in self-employment.
Speaking about the work done by the Fund for Young Talents, she said that the fund announced its third competition for awards to secondary school students and young people who achieved outstanding results at various international and domestic events.
The Minister said that one regional and six local youth offices were opened and now there were 48 local and four regional youth offices. Three seminars were held for coordinators of local youth offices.
Presenting the activities of the project management sector, the Minister said that the project for providing new sports equipment to schools will be continued, specifying that RSD 100 million was spent for this purpose this year.
She recalled that the Ministry completed the project for small school sports halls, according to which 10 sports halls will be constructed in Serbia, as well as the first phase of the project for small artificial football pitches, the financing of which will be helped by the Norwegian government and the international football association UEFA.
As for the sports sector, the Minister said that a public debate on the new law on sports is to be completed by January 31, 2009. Afterwards the bill is to enter government procedure.
She stressed that the strategy for sports development is synchronised with the other ministries and the Secretariat for Legislation and announced that it will be submitted to the government today and it is to be adopted at one of the upcoming sessions.
The Minister stressed that one of the top issues is the Universiade 2009 and expressed belief that regardless of many obstacles, this international event will be highly organised.
Samardzic-Markovic added that the Commission for Sport Financing will announce results of the first competition of this kind in the previous seven years and explained that all federations and sportsmen interested to be financed will have to wait the completion of the budget revision.
According to her, the Ministry is to enter a programme of annual operative planning.
The Minister stressed that those being part of the plan will obtain funds, while the others will not receive money and assessed that it will enable sports federations as well as youth NGOs to know in advance the amount of funds being at their disposal.
