Zoran Stojkovic
Stojkovic told a press conference today that the ministry has to make the Serbian judiciary fully independent so as to enable it to protect the law and citizens.
He said that the drafting of laws on judges, prosecutors, and a high judiciary is in its final stage and added that the ministry plans to introduce internal controls in Serbian courts.
Stojkovic confirmed that first steps have been made towards improving the quality of war crimes trials in the country, and he explained that lack of trained staff and poor financial situation are the biggest problems.
Stojkovic said that he inherited the ministry in a bad shape and noted that a report that followed the latest monitoring by the Council of Europe in January this year concluded that Serbia's judiciary needs urgent reforms.
