Jovan Krkobabic
Krkobabic told a press conference that his office is focusing mainly on social policy issues.
Firstly we increased pensions by 10%, Krkobabic stated, adding that RSD 5.4 billion had been allocated for that purpose.
He said that amendments to the law on pensions and disability insurance are being prepared and their implementation will enable the synchronisation of pensions to wages, adding that the Serbian government will vote on the draft law in a few days time.
After the synchronisation of pensions with wages for 2009, the government will set aside an extra RSD 5 million a year, explained Krkobabic
The overall state demand regarding unpaid taxes for pensions and disability insurance is RSD 74 million, said the Minister, adding that it is possible to provide money for the increase of pensions from regular funds, but it is important that a system of charging by taxation be efficiently implemented.
Krkobabic pointed out that a decrease in the cost of medicines now enables old people with very low pensions to obtain them more easily.
He said that the Refugee Commission, being within his mandate, can provide approximately €9 million for solving the problems of refugees and displaced persons in the upcoming period.
