Milan Markovic at today's press conference
At a press conference held at the Serbian government building, Markovic said that the Ministry drafted laws which will not only make the everyday life of Serbian citizens easier but will also reform the entire voting system in Serbia.
The Ministry prepared draft laws on the birth registry, citizens associations and state officials, the Minister specified, adding that the government had now adopted them and forwarded them for parliamentary procedure.
According to him, the draft law on the birth registry envisages that a birth certificate can be obtained in any municipality after its admittance into a central database and will always remain valid.
He stressed that the draft law on associations is very good, since it is completely based on EU standards as well as on the experiences of other countries in the region, adding that it envisages that associations can exist without registration and the government can not obstruct their work.
Markovic stressed that the main innovation of the law on state officials is the fact that they can be removed from their post by public recommendation from the ombudsman.
According to him, the Ministry had prepared working versions of laws on communal police, state electoral commissions and local elections, as well as a draft law on political parties.
He expressed hope that the draft law on political parties will enter parliamentary procedure by the end of the year, adding that all political parties, around 600 of them, need to re-register within six months.
Markovic said that RSD 144 million has been set aside for projects in 58 local self-government units.
The Minister, who is also president of the Coordinating Body for Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, said that this body’s priority in the first 100 days of work was forming strategies for the period 2008-2010.
