Cvetkovic told RTS that the global economic crisis will reflect on the increase of public spending and forming the 2009 budget in Serbia, but noted that there should be no panic when safety of international banking system is concerned.
Citizens can expect that implementation of the transitional trade agreement with the EU will reduce customs duties on many imported products, said Cvetkovic.
According to Cvetkovic, customs duties on import of new and second-hand cars from the EU will be halved.
The government plans to limit the increase of salaries to 10%, Cvetkovic said noting that this is just part of the plan to cut public spending.
Cvetkovic said that the International Monetary Fund advised Belgrade to decrease budget deficit from current 2.7% of GDP to below 2%.
Speaking on announced harmonization of pensions with 70% of average salary in 2009, he stated that this will depend on the budget.
The Prime Minister also said that the price increase of gas was done following the procedure, in agreement with the Energy Agency, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Energy.
Cvetkovic said that the government could withdaw the decision on 60% gas price increase, but recalled that the gas price has not been changed for one year and a half.
