Kikinda will host this year’s “European Heritage Days” in Serbia, as it has offered the best and the most interesting programme. The opening ceremony of the national celebration will take place in Kikinda on September 11, the Serbian Ministry of Culture said today.
Assistant Minister Vladimir Tomcic told a press conference that the “European Heritage Days” has been celebrated since 1991 and that around 20 million people attend celebrations each year in 49 European countries. Serbia joined them three years ago, he said.
Jovo Andjic of the organising committee said the slogan, “Europe: A Common Heritage,” is important for raising awareness of true values of cultural heritage and tolerance everywhere. According to him, the national slogan is “Heritage and the Young,” because Serbia wants to stress the significance of young people for the preservation of tradition and the national culture.
