At a press conference on the Nis Investment Forum NIF 08, which will open in Nis on October 2, Djelic said that after the ratification of the energy agreement with Russia, Nis will become the distribution centre for natural gas.
The gas pipe line will enter Serbia at the border with Bulgaria and will stretch along Corridor 10, he explained and added that this capital investment will engage a large number of domestic and foreign investors.
He voiced belief that Serbian parliament will ratify the energy agreement with a large majority, as well as the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU.
Djelic also announced that electrification of the rail road section from Nis to Dimitrovgrad is to be finished in the next four years.
He noted that the “Open Sky Agreement“ is to be ratified in the next 18 months, after which the airport in Nis will be able to attract low-budget airline companies.
According to him, a centre for science and technology will be opened in Nis in the next two years, as well as a software campus, so that the city can become the industrial centre of the region. The production of electrical components for the car industry is also to begin there, he added.
Djelic said that the government yesterday formed a three-party organisation with the city of Nis which will be committed to it the same way it was to Kragujevac and Zastava in the past two years.
Nis Mayor Milos Simonovic said that the aim of the NIF 08 is to increase the level of investment in the Nisava, Pirot and Toplica districts and added that the forum will be an ideal opportunity to acquaint foreign investors and international organisations with potentials of this region.
He also noted that the main priority of the city of Nis is the creation of positive conditions for attracting foreign investments.
Director of the NIF 08 forum Mladen Jovanovic said that the one-day forum is one of the largest business investment conferences to be held in Serbia this year.
According to him, 20 leading companies from the Nisava, Pirot and Toplica districts will be presented at the conference. These are companies with the most satisfactory development plans, ready to contribute to regional development through foreign investments.
He specified that the best five structural projects will also be presented, as well as positive experiences regarding foreign investments, potentials and comparative values of the above-mentioned regions.
NIF 08 is organised by NGO Protekta and the Regional Chamber of Commerce Nis, thanks to a donation by the tobacco factory DIN, which is part of the Philip Morris International.
