Addressing a press conference, Petkovic said that at the end of this year the total amount of receipts from tourism will exceed last year’s receipts worth $531 million.
He recalled that the number of tourists fell during the first few months of this year, but all available accommodation was fully booked in July and August.
According to Petkovic, 1.08 million tourists visited Serbia during the first half of the year, continuing the trend from last year, but according to statistics provided by local tourism organisations and municipalities in August the number of tourists increased by some 10% compared to the same period last year.
Petkovic said that revitalisation of the Kopaonik mountain resort is underway, and added that another ski centre will be opened on the mountain.
The procedure for selecting the best offer for the Lepenski Vir centre is complete, where new construction is needed to provide better conditions for tourists. The project is worth RSD 191 million, said Petkovic.
He stressed that a sum of RSD 300 million has been allocated for loans in tourism, and 33 projects have been approved worth a total of RSD 297.4 million.
Non-repayable budgetary funds worth RSD 83 million have been set aside for constructing public toilets in the busiest tourist destinations, said Petkovic and added that until now funds have been approved for six projects worth RSD 12.4 million.
