Sutanovac told Tanjug that it is of great importance for Serbia's south to finally get a stable military base.
The base is located near the motorway and next to the administrative line with Kosovo, which means that Serbian army members will be able to react adequately should there be any destabilisation in the area, he said.
The Minister recalled that the construction of this base started six years ago, he said and noted that the army should save money for equipment and training as well as promotion of living conditions of army members.
He also said that after decades of stagnation, telecommunications equipment is about to arrive for the army.
The Minister announced that the Army Air Force will prepare a study stating necessary steps to protect Serbian sky.
Sutanovac said that salaries in the past year in the defence system increased 40% on the average and noted that the interest in military academy is increasing.
There are no indicators, except for certain incidents in the south of Serbia, that Serbian security can be endangered, he said describing the security situation in Serbia as stable despite political turmoil.
