He said that employees and former employees of the six large public companies – the Serbian oil industry “Naftna Industrija Srbije”, electricity provider “Elektroprivreda Srbije”, "Galenika", "Jat Airways", "Telekom Srbija" and "Nikola Tesla" airport also applied for free shares, and their total number is 149,776.
Ciric said that during the application process it was noticed that certain groups of citizens were discriminated against and that was changed by certain decrees. In that way, citizens who are unable to work and those who received worthless shares in previous privatisations were also allowed to apply.
According to him, the final number of citizens who will receive shares will be announced by the year’s end once the Privatisation Agency determines how many citizens fulfil the necessary conditions.
The State Secretary said that in the first quarter of 2009 citizens will be given the money from the sale of shares of companies which have so far been sold at tenders, and added that when it comes to the six public companies, citizens will receive money from the sale of Jat Airways and shares of the other five companies.
