Serbia determined to complete cooperation with ICTY

President of the National Council for cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) Rasim Ljajic said today that Serbia is resolved to complete that cooperation and that the arrest of Radovan Karadzic is a proof of that.

At a press conference, Ljajic showed a photo of Karadzic with long white hair and beard and explained that Karadzic used false identity and documents on the name of Dragan Dabic and that his latest place of residence was in New Belgrade. He added that this Hague indictee is not a Serbian citizen.
He said that Karadzic concealed his real identity very successfully and that he specialised in alternative medicine in a private doctor's office.
Ljajic, who is also coordinator of the Action team, said that the police are still working on the reconstruction of Karadzic's movements, adding that operational findings will be used in the search for the remaining two Hague indictees and that is why data that can be made public are limited.

War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic said that the operation of Karadzic's arrest started yesterday afternoon, and that he was arrested yesterday evening. Karadzic was interrogated during the night and he mostly defended himself by silence, Vukcevic said and added that the investigating judge decided that all conditions have been met for Karadzic's handover to the ICTY.
