In an interview with RTS, the Prime Minister said that apart from economic, there also political objectives, namely the EU integration process and protection of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as social objectives, namely the fight against crime and corruption.
He pointed out that protection of territorial integrity and sovereignty is a crucial goal and noted that substantial funds are invested in improving living conditions for the Serb population in Kosovo-Metohija, but added that distribution channels for those funds might need to be reviewed.
We do not nor will ever we accept the independence of Kosovo-Metohija, said Cvetkovic.
Speaking about the concession for the Horgos-Pozega motorway, Cvetkovic stressed that termination of concession contract, if it happens, will not postpone construction.
He also said that the government needs to engage in solving energy problems and attracting investments.
Cvetkovic said inflation must fall if we want to join the EU and described as realistic the reduction of annual inflation to 4% by the end of this government’s mandate.
Speaking about pensions, the Prime Minister said a social balance is necessary so that this category of citizens is not neglected.
The Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic said he expects Serbia to receive EU candidate status in March or April 2009.
A government’s success is about tangible results, namely reduced unemployment, kilometres of motorways and railway tracks.
On the other hand, a failure would be if all that did not happen, if inflation remained the same and salaries on a low level, concluded Cvetkovic.
