Karanovic said at a press conference themed “Prevention of abuse of psychoactive substances”, held on June 26 in Stari Dvor on International Day against Drug Abuse that this programme is being carried out in six medical institutions.
These are the clinical centres (psychiatric clinics) in Novi Sad, Kragujevac and Nis, the Special hospital for addictive diseases in Belgrade, the Institute for Mental Health and the Serbian Institute for Public Health.
Karanovic that the programme includes activities such as preparation of guides of good clinical practice in the treatment of drug addicts, education of health workers, associates and especially of selected doctors.
The State Secretary said that the programme envisages the inclusion of local communities in the implementation of these activities, which imply education of employees in the education sector, social services, prisons and similar, development of an information system for registering drug addicts and the creation of health centres for prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of addiction.
According to her, a project themed "Implementation of the Anti-Drug Strategy" has been planned, for which the EU has set aside €1.5 million.
Karanovic recalled that programme activities within the project to strengthen the capacities of the health ministry are also planned and explained that they include modern prevention programmes and contemporary approaches to early diagnosis and treatment of addicts.
The UN declared June 26 International Day against Drug Abuse and Trafficking, which this year is, marked under the slogan "Do drugs control your life? Your life. Your surroundings. There’s no room for drugs".
