The Serbian Ministry of Religion stated today that two years since the Law on churches and religious communities came into force, the efficiency of original, democratic and realistic solutions incorporated in this law has been proved in practice.
The statement adds that based on this law, the religious system in Serbia has been finally harmonised with new democratic standards and experiences.
Churches and religious communities, which were marginalised after 1945, have been given back their former status of public communities of general social, national and state importance.
All religious communities existing in Europe have been registered in Serbia as well, according to the Law on churches and religious communities.
Thus, religious freedom is guaranteed to all people and to every religious organisation and citizens’ religious association provided that their activities are not in contravention of domestic and international regulations which prohibit the use of religious freedom for inhuman acts.
