At the fourth regional conference themed "The Environment towards Europe", taking place at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Miscevic explained that once the government adopts it, the national integration programme will be sent for public debate.
She said that this is in fact an action plan of one thousand pages which specifies the dynamics of harmonisation of Serbian laws with EU standards, defines financial expenses and the widest spectrum of needs necessary for the matter to be successfully concluded.
Miscevic stressed that reaching a social consensus on the process of EU integration is not so important if there is no plan with ways to achieve the basic goal, which is not only EU accession, but also a change of Serbia and the creation of a modern state.
According to her, environmental protection is the most important task for us as one-third of all EU regulations are related to the environment.
In the past few years, we have had the greatest growth of environmental regulations and the question is how much time Serbia needs to adopt them as we are just beginning to create the environmental legal framework, Miscevic said.
Dutch Ambassador to Belgrade Ronald Van Dartel, Danish Ambassador to Belgrade Ruben Madsen and representatives of the Swedish embassy participated in the conference and showed readiness to support Serbia in adopting EU environmental standards.
