Bozidar Djelic at today's press conference
Speaking at a press conference, Djelic said that the aim is to change the structure of exports so that in the overall structure, export of consumer goods should be 65% instead of the current 43%.
He said that according to the strategy new markets should be found and the number of companies that annually export goods worth more than €10million should increase from 66 to 120 by the end of 2011.
The main markets for export besides the EU are countries signatory to the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA), then Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan, as well as the Middle East and North African countries, said Djelic.
According to Djelic, it has been planned that in order to provide financial support to exporters, export credit agencies should be recapitalised with $50 million from the budget and their loans should be freed from obligatory reserve.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that other measures proposed in the strategy include strengthening economic diplomacy, improving customs and tax policies, reduction of administrative hurdles and improving product standardisation.
He said that Serbian exports per capita in 2007 were worth €896 which is 11 times less than in Slovenian firms, and 2.3 times less than in Croatian.
Djelic said that according to a decision by the Serbian government RSD 500 million will be allocated from the budget for severance payments to 1,000 redundant workers in six arms factories, where 7,000 workers are currently employed.
The debts of these factories to the Serbian budget to the amount of RSD 2.7 billion will be turned into deposit, said Djelic and explained that this is how the state is trying to help the arms industry to use its export potential and successfully finish sending export shipments to Iraq.
According to Djelic, members of the government unanimously condemned the statement of Vojislav Seselj made in The Hague on May 21, 2008 in which he praised the killer of former prime minister of Serbia Zoran Djindjic.
Djelic said that all members of the government harshly condemned Seselj’s statement and remarked that it is scandalous and shameful.
