Speaking at a conference on “Availability of Immunisation in Serbia”, he said that only the supply of healthy drinking water is more important than immunisation and recalled the measles epidemic in 1972.
Director of the Institute for Public Health "Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut" Tanja Knezevic explained that immunisation is a health care priority and noted that diseases that can be prevented by immunisation cause 32,000 children to die in Europe every year alone.
The main preconditions for successful immunisation are the quality and safety of vaccines according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) standards. According to data from the WHO, over two million children die every year from diseases that can be prevented by vaccination.
