In an interview for today’s edition of the Danas daily, Kostunica noted that all parties in Serbia support the EU integration process, therefore this issue is indisputable; however, the question is whether a whole or a halved Serbia will resume the EU road.
Serbia will not join the EU or any other union if it gives up a portion of its territory, because if we give up Kosovo today, tomorrow we will apply the same principle and give up Vojvodina, and the day after tomorrow some other part of our country, he said.
In the end, nothing will be left of Serbia and then it will not be able to join with anyone, explained the Prime Minister when asked about the alternative if Serbia does not resume its EU road.
According to him, France and Argentina, for instance, have no alternative for French and Argentine citizens, therefore Serbia should have no alternative for its citizens.
Starting from this principle, we want to talk responsibly with the EU and with all others about our mutual relations, not to mention that we are particularly interested in strengthening economic cooperation with EU countries, stressed Kostunica.
Asked whether he anticipates that the number of states which recognised Kosovo will be higher than the current 35, he recalled that the goal of the US and NATO was to have 100 states recognising Kosovo in the first month.
He noted that they exerted enormous pressure on all states to breach UN Security Council Resolution 1244, but that all they achieved was the recognition of the unilaterally declared independence by 35 states which gave in to the policy of force.
He said he is certain that considering the fact that the US and NATO constantly use enormous energy to make some country recognise the existence of the fictitious state of Kosovo, they think that all misfortunes would disappear if they forced out even Serbia's indirect signature.
The latest attempt is Solana’s agreement, which is offered for signing on Easter, Kostunica said and noted that the US and NATO are counting on the fact that Serbia's signature would increase the small number of countries that recognised Kosovo.
