The marble sculpture of Bogorodica Sokolicka (Virgin Mary of Sokolica), from the Sokolica monastery near Kosovska Mitrovica, will be displayed in the Belgrade National Museum until Aug 24.
Bogorodica Sokolicka (Virgin Mary of Sokolica)
The sculpture was one of the Serbian items at an exhibition of Byzantine art at the Metropolitan Museum in New York in July.
After the exhibition, the sculpture was taken back to the Sokolica monastery, where, according to a legend, it was first brought 500 years ago by monks fleeing from the Turks.
