Speaking at a press conference, Cubrilo said that the campaign costs RSD 1 million, and calls on Serbian citizens to register on the electoral role abroad and to exercise their right to vote in the parliamentary elections.
According to Cubrilo, the first phase of the campaign for registration of voters began on March 17 and will last until April 20, after that the second phase will begin which will be aimed at motivating people to vote in the elections.
In the first phase the Ministry of Diaspora is sending promotional material by email to mailing lists, and to individuals who forward the information to a large number of addresses abroad, explained the Minister.
The ministry will announce news and provide information related to voting through domestic electronic and print media, as well as newsletters for the Diaspora and foreign media.
The second phase of the campaign aims at raising awareness among the public at home and is targeted at motivating people living in Serbia to encourage their relatives and friends abroad to vote.
She said that during the Easter Holidays, on April 27 badges carrying the slogan “Voting Also Saves Serbia” will be distributed.
According to the ministry’s surveys, 17% of voters in the Diaspora are of the opinion that they should not vote, 30% do not show any interest in the elections, while the rest think that they should exercise their right to vote but believe that the system of voting is too complicated and the state must do something in order to improve the situation, said Cubrilo.
The Minister said that she will visit Germany from March 30 to April 2, and a few other countries, as part of efforts to motivate citizens living abroad to register and vote.
She said that she will also visit Serbian municipalities from where a large number of people have gone to live and work abroad.
