Serbian Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Slobodan Samardzic stated today that there are large discrepancies among coalition partners on two items of the coalition agreement, namely EU integration and the issue of Kosovo-Metohija.
Slobodan Samardzic at today's press conference
Samardzic told a press conference that government must find a modus operandi, but expressed personal doubt the government will survive.
The Minister explained that one half of the government is in favour of moving towards EU association and demanding that the EU clearly state if it recognises Serbia’s territorial integrity, while the other half is for immediate integration and is willing to ignore the EU’s policy towards Serbia.
According to Samardzic, contrasting opinions were expressed at the government’s session regarding the
Resolution proposal on the protection of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia in relations with international organisations presented by the Serbian Radical Party.
The opinion of the Foreign Minister was that this resolution should be rejected and it will be forwarded to the Serbian parliament, while the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija gave a positive opinion.
According to Samardzic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that a positive assessment of this resolution would jeopardise the process of EU integration, while the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija in its assessment recalled pervious decisions made by the parliament that were backed by a huge majority.
