Slobodan Samardzic at today's press conference
Samardzic said at a press conference held at the Serbian government that if we compare the political agreement with announcements that Kosovo Albanians will declare independence, then it is obvious that the EU wants to drag Serbia into the process of recognising the independence of Kosovo-Metohija, the Minister stated.
He underlined that Serbia would be tricked into cooperating although it would seem otherwise. He explained that the political agreement is merely a declaration which does not have the formal characteristics of an international agreement and does not offer anything from the Stabilisation and Association Agreement.
The purpose of that agreement is to make Serbia tacitly accept the sending of the mission and the province's independence, the Minister reiterated.
He said that activities of the EU have shaken the relations within the ruling coalition to a great extent and are undermining democratic institutions in Serbia.
Samardzic said that the government cannot find a common language regarding the political agreement because one part of the government believes that it is in no way related to the EU mission in Kosovo.
If there is continued insistence to sign the political agreement with the EU, which indirectly affects the future and the fate of Kosovo-Metohija then this government has no future, said the Minister.
According to Samardzic, if this is successfully overcome, the government may be preserved, since its overall policy prior to the EU proposal was unanimous.
Samardzic recalled that the coalition agreement of parties which constituted the government last May requires that all decisions be made with consensus; therefore only one more organ is left for this decision, and that is parliament.
The Serbian parliament Speaker is under obligation to enforce this decision because this is an extraordinary situation for the state which may be resolved by a parliament decision, concluded the Minister.
