Jeremic said in an interview with BBC Radio that not once has Serbia questioned its positive attitude toward the deeper and more active engagement of the EU in Serbia and the southern Serbian province.
We only think it is necessary to come up with a good legal basis for sending that mission and we are deeply convinced that can happen only through a UN Security Council resolution, the Minister said.
According to Jeremic, determining the future status of Kosovo and Serbia’s European integration are two separate processes, on two parallel tracks.
Serbia must fight for its national interests on both tracks, without making any cuts. We will continue to do absolutely everything in our legal, political and diplomatic power to fight for the preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, stressed Jeremic.
He reiterated that a unilateral proclamation of independence in Kosovo would be in violation of the Constitution of Serbia, UN Security Council Resolution 1244, UN Charter and Helsinki Final Act.
The Minister stressed that if that happens, Serbia will behave according to international law, democratic principles and values, and added that Serbia will do absolutely everything to defend its territorial integrity and democratic order, and it will annul any illegitimate and illegal decision.
Our country will use all legal, political, diplomatic and economic means to defend those values and the Serbian Constitution, but will not use force, Jeremic said and noted that Serbia knows how to act in the case of Kosovo independence.
