Jeremic said in an interview with Slovak daily SME that today Moscow is a very important advocate of the preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia in the process of a status settlement for Kosovo-Metohija.
Russia is also Serbia’s major economic partner, and our basic political priority is EU accession and I don’t see any discrepancy between maintaining good relations with Russia as Serbia’s traditional partner and Serbia’s road to the Union, the Minister said.
He, however, did not exclude the possibility of revising Serbia’s relations with those EU members that recognise Kosovo’s possible independence.
According to Jeremic, the proclamation of Kosovo independence would be an illegal act, which is contrary to the Constitution of Serbia and UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
If Kosovo proclaims independence, Serbia will have no other option but to defend its Constitution and to use all political, diplomatic and economic means, Jeremic pointed out.
The Minister noted that Serbia does not want to go back one decade and added that Serbia would not use military means.
