Serbia included in list of exporters of dairy products to EU

Serbian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Slobodan Milosavljevic said today that the EU decided to include Serbia in the list of countries that are allowed to export dairy products to EU market, and to have transit through the EU to other markets.

Milosavljevic told a press conference that the agreement was reached last week in Brussels during the talks of the Ministry's delegation and experts of the EU Commission for Health, Veterinary Medicine, Food Safety and Plant Health Control.

In the upcoming months Serbia also expects to get approval from the EU for the export of live animals, which will make it easier to achieve the export quota of baby beef to EU countries.

We will be able to achieve the export quota for this type of beef more easily, said Milosavljevic. He added that agreements with Brussels will exert pressure for reducing prices and give a new incentive for renewing agricultural production. Serbia will no longer be a risky country regarding cattle breeding and dairy, rather an attractive investment target.

According to Milosavljevic, this will help Serbia become a regional leader in the food market, which will bring better products to the EU market.

However, the Minister said that the EU decision is very important and revolutionary for Serbian agriculture since after a long period the dairy sector will get the chance to compete against large competitors in EU and other important markets on an equal basis.
