Kostunica wished on behalf of the Serbian government and his own a lot of success to the founder of the festival, director Emir Kusturica and all his associates and participants in this important cultural event.
He wished that the new film festival called Kustendorf has a long and successful life, adding that the place where it is held used to be just one the hills on Mokra Gora, while now it is Drvengrad, the youngest town in Serbia, which in itself is one more work of art of Kusturica.
The Serbian Prime Minister said that it is very important that on the first film gathering in the town which is a mixture of the ancient and contemporary, young talents are gathered with many prominent filmmakers.
Kostunica noted that the festival begins on the first day of new 2008 according to the Julian calendar and wished happy New Year to the audience and guests.
He expressed special satisfaction with the fact that the famous Russian artist and proven friend of the Serbian people Nikita Mihalkov was one of the guests of the festival.
Mihalkov addressed the audience, after which a collage from his movies was screened, accompanied by the live performance of the group Vrelo.
Kusturica said that this festival will be dedicated both to film and music, that there will be no commercials during it and that it will focus on authors.
Short movies of students from 12 countries will compete at this festival which will last until January 21, and guests from the programme of author films will hold workshops for their young colleagues.
