Mirko Cvetkovic
Speaking at a press conference on the Ministry’s results in 2007, Cvetkovic said that a budget surplus of nearly RSD 14 billion was envisaged for this year.
He recalled that in 2007 the Finance Ministry prepared two budget bills, the first one in July which terminated interim financing from budget.
The Minister specified that during 2007 nearly €630 million was paid in debts, in which public debt amounted to €385 million and old foreign currency savings almost RSD 240 million, while the rest was the old debt towards pensioners.
Speaking on payment of debt to pensioners, Cvetkovic said that a sum of nearly RSD 5 billion was paid out during December, and in January 2008 the last payment in the same amount is to be given out.
Speaking about salary adjustments for employees in the public sector in case inflation next year rises above the planned 6%, the Minister explained that this matter will be arranged in agreement with trade unions.
Cvetkovic confirmed estimates that by the end of the year inflation will stand at nearly 10%, instead of the planned 6.5%. He added that the 3% rise in inflation is result of an increase in oil prices on the world market and of agricultural products in Serbia due to drought this year.
