The Serbia Football Federation had also put Djukic in charge of the Olympic team for the 2008 Games in Beijing.
The 41-year old, who was in charge of Partizan Belgrade, led Serbia's under-21 team to the European finals earlier this year.
The new coach takes over from Spaniard Javier Clemente who was sacked after his failure to qualify for the Euro 2008 finals.
