At a press conference at which criteria for "The Best Entrepreneur in 2007 " contest organised by daily Blic were presented, Djelic voiced hope that this contest will show that our society does not have only two strata – the poor and tycoons, but that there are more and more people who gained property through their own work and effort.
State Secretary for Employment at the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development Vladimir Ilic said that the following year’s budget envisages almost €3 billion for active employment measures and support to entrepreneurs.
Ilic underlined that entrepreneurship in Serbia must be given maximum support since it faces a number of impediments, market under-development being one of them.
Director of the Agency for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Dejan Jovanovic pointed to the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises in Serbia, and stressed that this sector makes more than a half of total GDP and engages almost 60% of workers in Serbia.
The best entrepreneur in the category of small and medium-sized enterprises in 2007 will be announced at the end of the two-month contest, in January next year, and Banca Intesa will give a €30,000 reward.
A jury made of experts has short-listed 50 enterprises out of almost 1,000 small and medium-sized enterprises, and basic criteria will be profitability, productivity, liquidity, exports potential, number of new employees in this year, range of new products, technological innovations, orientation to environment protection, as well as contributions to local community.
