Serbian Minister of Environmental Protection Sasa Dragin said that after the signing that GTZ should help municipalities in Serbia strengthen their environmental capacities, especially in the field of communal waste management and sewage waters management.
Dragin announced that the amendments to the Law on environmental protection envision the setting up of municipal environmental funds and added that the Ministry will every year approve the programme of the fund to avoid financial misuse.
Director of GTZ for Serbia Uwe Stumpf recalled that this organisation financed 50 environmental local projects in Serbia, particularly projects for water distillation and waste disposal.
According to Stumpf, the role of GTZ is to support implementation of European environmental standards in Serbia and to help promote cooperation of the Ministry and local communities with the aim of meeting EU accession conditions.
SKGO President Zeljko Ozegovic said that local communities need support in implementation of law, education of population, mapping ecological “black points”, introduction of European standards and creating local action plans.
