Uranija Kozmidis-Luburic at today's press conference
Kozmidis-Luburic told a press conference that according to the decision brought by the Serbian government regarding the Tesla accelerator installation on November 1, it is envisaged that the funding for construction of the accelerator will be stopped.
She added that majority of employees engaged in this project will be transferred to new jobs while the scientific projects are not related to construction and will be continued.
According to the State Secretary, there is a problem regarding 23 employees who conduct scientific work and were not allowed by the authorities to publish their studies, which is necessary for applying for other projects, therefore all efforts will be made to help them.
Kozmidis-Luburic said that the work on the accelerator started in 1989 and that so far $20 million was spent, and that additional €11 million more needs to be spent.
She noted that when the project was started, it was supposed to cost $5 million and to last five years, whereas the building alone cost €5 million.
The funds were continually paid out until they reached the amount of $9 million, so the lack of money cannot be reason for prolongation of deadlines for construction, Kozmidis-Luburic concluded.
