Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic commented today on political reactions caused by the measures imposed by High Representative Miroslav Lajcak in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and said that the Serbian government insists that all international agreements including the Dayton Agreement and the UN SC Resolution 1244 are respected.

Djelic told a press conference that officials in Belgrade respect the territorial integrity of neighbouring countries, since that is also a way to defend Serbia’s own territorial integrity.
He voiced hope that bills necessary for holding presidential elections will soon be completed and adopted in accordance to envisaged deadlines.
Djelic said that during the next few weeks the government will also examine whether food products and other consumer goods are too expensive in Serbia or if prices are suitable considering the situation in the region and the buying power of people.
He explained that if it is established that prices of certain products are higher in Serbia than in neighbouring countries, causes of this situation will be examined.
According to Djelic, this is not just an economic, but also a social and political question to which an answer must be found.
Djelic said that it must be established which segment of production or sale of certain goods is inefficient, adding that problems concerning prices will be considered by a governmental team.
He said that this process could also involve work by the committee for protection of competition, and the government will take all steps so that food and household items are as inexpensive as possible.
Djelic stressed that the government will not “enter into anything such as a command economy” or return to socialist times, but added that an inquiry must be made into the structure of these branches of business to ascertain facts.
