Speaking at a forum on culture policy in the area of publishing, organised by the Belgrade book fair, Stefanovic said that the ministry is very interested in the opinion of expert public on the subject.
She called upon all experts to submit books and criticism since following the adoption of the general law on culture which is currently open to public debate, individual laws will be discussed, among which top priority will be given to the law on publishing.
Serbian Assistant Minister of Culture Ivana Dimic said that the Ministry of Culture sought larger funds in the financial plan for 2008 in order to properly deal with purchase of books and literary networks.
We have designed the project for the book centre which will deal with the entire problem attentively and in detail and monitor the path of the book from author to reader, said Dimic and added that the Canadian model was followed in the area of translating Serbian books into foreign languages.
She explained that this model implies that interested foreign publishers seek a certain type of literature, and the host country forwards a list of concrete titles.
