Speaking at the closing conference Marjanovic said that in order to intensify implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive in the Sava River Basin, in response to the needs of user countries which are Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the European Commission financed the designing of a project titled Pilot River Basin Plan for Sava River within the framework of the regional CARDS prgoramme.
Speaking on strategies for regulating water resources in Serbia, Marjanovic said that one of the priorities in the water sector is increasing the degree of engaging consumers in public systems of water supply from 77% to 86%.
One of the goals of the policy in this sector is increasing prices of water from € 0.35% to €1.2% per cubic metre, and increasing the annual turn over from € 250 million to more than € 800, said Nikola Marjanovic.
According to Marjanovic, it is necessary to increase habitations with sewage system from 46% to 70%.
Speaking on privatisation of the water sector, Marjanovic said that the Water Directorate will direct a recommendation that water companies remain in majority state ownership since this is important for defence from flooding.
