In an interview with BBC, Djelic said that Serbia conclude technical negotiations on SAA and noted that the SAA signing will be the first and last step of Serbia on its path to the EU.
He said that various contacts with the Serbian Prime Minister, President and Deputy Prime Minister in Brussels and Lisbon have shown that the EU and presiding Portugal are resolved to speed up Serbia’s integration so that SAA is not only initialled by mid-October but signed by the year’s end.
Djelic, however, stressed that for the SAA signing it is important that we get another positive report of the Hague tribunal and noted that Carla Del Ponte’s visit to Belgrade on September 24 is very important.
During the first 100 days of government work, two Hague fugitives have been arrested and extradited to The Hague. We will round up that cooperation. The government is resolved and unified about this matter, Djelic pointed out and added that the government will prove it is doing everything in its power to fully end cooperation with the tribunal.
He rejected any possibility of connecting Serbia’s EU integration with the situation in Kosovo-Metohija.
