Ministry of Religion defines five programmes for realisation by 2009

Serbian Minister of Religion Radomir Naumov said today that the Ministry has defined five programmes that should be realised by 2009.

Speaking at a press conference held on the occasion of 100 days of work of the Ministry, Naumov said that these programmes are the improvement of religious education, improvement of the financial position of the clergy and religious officials, protection of religious, cultural and national identity, improvement of religious culture, religious freedom and tolerance, and improvement of the overall standard - construction, reconstruction and maintenance of temples and religious facilities.
He said that representatives of the Ministry of Religion held meetings with representatives of all traditional churches and religious communities in Serbia, smaller registered religious communities, and with foreign religious representatives with whom an inter-religious dialogue was conducted.
Naumov concluded that it is necessary to improve dialogue between the church, religious communities and the state, and ensure that religious education and religious culture be treated on an equal footing with other forms of education.
