Speaking at a press conference held on the occasion of the first 100 days of the work of the government, Milosavljevic said that the aim is to reduce unemployment by half by 2010. To that end, the Ministry of Health approved 1,000 new workplaces for 300 medical doctors and 700 nurses and medical technicians.
Milosavljevic recalled that the Ministry of Health launched a campaign "You Have the Right" for informing the citizens about the rights of patients in the system of health care, with the aim of raising the awareness of the users and providers of medical services of patients' rights.
He also said that a publication on the health of Serbian citizens was presented, which was made on the basis of a research made by the Ministry of Health in late 2006.
The results of the research showed significant improvements in the reduction of smoking rate among adults and adolescents, better awareness of the risk factors and greater responsibility for one's own health, higher use of services in the state sector and greater satisfaction with the services provided. But a greater use of alcohol was also recorded, which shows that that problem should be treated seriously.
Milosavljevic said that the Ministry's aim is to complete the renovation of clinical centres in Nis, Kragujevac, Novi Sad and Belgrade during this mandate, for which almost €200 million will be used.
He concluded that it is necessary to increase the social awareness of health in order to make better results in the system of health care in Serbia.
