"Days of European Heritage 2007", which is being organised simultaneously in European states, begins today and will last until September 30, and will present cultural-historical heritage, biodiversity, archeological sites, settlements, cultural landscapes, fortresses, cities, the culture of various peoples, industrial heritage etc.
Deputy president of the event's council Dragana Zeljkovic said at a press conference that Belgrade will host over 300 guests from abroad, including President of the Council of Europe Terry Davis, as well as ministers of culture and other officials from European countries, many experts from the field of heritage, culture, tourism, the event's coordinators and other guests from Europe.
Head of the sector for protection of cultural heritage at the Ministry of Culture Borislav Surdic said that conventions on protection of architectural heritage, landscape protection and cultural heritage values will be signed on September 21.
He stressed that Serbia, which became part of this event six years ago, which was founded 20 years ago by the CoE, must accept the entire European system of legislation in the area of culture.
The event will be held in the organisation of the City of Belgrade, the Serbian Ministry of Culture and the CoE, and under the auspices of Serbian President Boris Tadic.
The cultural programme will be held in 23 places in Serbia, and in more than 30 cultural institutions in Belgrade. Entry to all events will be free of charge.
