Kostunica told a press conference held after the government session that he is sure that the UN Security Council will not pass a resolution allowing the usurpation of part of a territory of a UN member country.
That has not worked so far and it turned out that through cooperation of Serbia and Russia, there is a firm position that breaking up of one country will not pass, the Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica singled out.
He said that numerous statements of Albanian separatists and Washington’s support are worrying, noting that unilateral declaration of Kosovo-Metohija’s independence cannot be allowed as it would be a dangerous precedent and would seriously hamper the authority of the UN.
Serbia’s position is that international law and principles must be respected, Kostunica underlined and noted that Serbia has been consistent in that no matter Bosnia-Herzegovina or Serbia and its integrity are concerned.
Speaking on the Vienna negotiations, Kostunica said that the quality of negotiations is what matters and not how long they last, adding that the way they are guided is also important.
The Prime Minister invited Serbian media to publish annex 11 of Ahtisaari’s plan on military presence in Kosovo-Metohija and called on public to get involved in an open debate on the role of NATO in the southern Serbian province.
Kostunica described as unusual that the military power is stronger than civilian as it is envisioned in Ahtisaari’s plan for Kosovo-Metohija.
We have opened a public debate on NATO in Kosovo-Metohija and every opinion is welcome, Kostunica said adding that no explanation arrived from Brussels.
Kostunica expressed his satisfaction with the government's work so far, relations within the government team and its functioning.
He pointed out that five crucial principles presented in his keynote address on May 15, 2007 represent the ground of cooperation within the government.
Kostunica described the Concession Contract for Horgos-Pozega Highway Route as good as it went through all the check-ups of state bodies, state attorney, both governments and the public.
I can only wish that the Ibar main road is replaced with a new, modern road and thus connect Belgrade with Montenegro, which would connect central Europe with sea in the shortest way, Kostunica said.
He said that the government appointed a representative for concession for Horgos-Pozega highway route, adding that the government has for the first time faced public demand to publish one such contract.
Kostunica also noted he is satisfied with Serbian government’s cooperation with the Hague tribunal adding that intensive efforts are being made to meet this international obligation.
I am certain that Serbia will fully meet its obligations when cooperation with the Hague tribunal is concerned, he pointed out.
Kostunica noted that the Serbian government will soon appoint ambassadors to several very important posts in the world, including Podgorica.
He also explained that the Serbian law is no obstacle for Montenegrin citizens to get Serbian citizenship. Asked whether he will visit Montenegro any time soon, Kostunica replied that visits of two countries’ state bodies will continue.
