Ilic told a press conference that he will insist at the session of the Serbian government, to be held on August 23, that the concessions contract is published in full, while the US company Louis Berger will also direct an appeal that permission is given for the contract to be published. Louis Berger has copyrights to the contract.
He reiterated that the Serbian government can afford the damage which could occur if the contract is published without the permission of the concessioner, who was chosen through an international tender.
The Minister stressed that he will appeal that a request be directed to the concessioner for the contract to be made public, since this is a very important project and means a lot for Serbia and should have no doubts associated to it.
From August 20, all journalists interested in the contract will have the opportunity to read the details of the document in the premises of the Ministry of Infrastructure, but will not be allowed to take picture or carry copies, said Ilic.
According to Ilic, everything in the contract is based upon economic principles, and the construction of the highway will create thousands of jobs and 20 different branches of economy will be involved in the project.
Ilic stressed that preparations for beginning of construction works are almost complete, funds are available to provide guarantees to the concessioner for fulfilling obligations of the contract, work is being done on contract projects, and construction is expected to begin by the end of this year.
He pointed to the fact that the issue of construction of the highway is not problematic since Serbia needs the road considering the fact that the Ibar Highway is the most frequently used highway in the country.
On behalf of the Serbian government, Minister Ilic
signed a concessions contract on the construction of the Horgos–Pozega highway with the Spanish–Austrian consortium FCC Construction S.A and Alpine Mayreder Bau GmbH on March 30.
