Aleksandar Popovic
Popovic signed the contracts on distribution of funds with representatives of the municipalities of Nis, Kragujevac, Sombor, Kraljevo, Pirot and Zrenjanin. Works are scheduled to be completed by the beginning of the 2009/2010 heating season.
Minister Popovic explained on the occasion that the aim of the modernisation of heating plants in these cities is to save 25% to 30% of energy through efficient use of heating energy produced.
Serbian Assistant Minister of Energy and Mining Vladan Karamarkovic stressed that after the renovation of heating plants the calculation of heating energy spent will be changed as calorie metres will be installed and paid for depending on the amount of electricity used, and not as until now a fixed amount on the basis of the size of the residential area.
He said that funds for installing the measuring devices in these six municipalities have been secured.
Coordinator of the project for rehabilitation of the remote heating system from the German bank KfW in Belgrade Brankica Dajic recalled that the bank financed the previous two phases of the project from 2001 to 2004 with donations worth €17.7 million, and the funds were spent on modernisation of heating plants in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Nis.
