State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture Ivana Stefanovic stated yesterday that at the recently held meeting of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) in Sounion, Greece, both projects submitted by Serbia were approved.
Stefanovic represented Serbia at the first meeting of the newly-formed BSEC working group for culture and stated to the Tanjug news agency that the Serbian delegation submitted two projects themed “Roads of Roman Emperors” and “Water Corridors of Culture”.
She spoke about Serbia’s archeological sites Sirmium, Naisus, Viminacium and Gamzigrad and added that there are more similar sites in the region where Roman armies and emperors used to dwell and which could be incorporated into a regional project of cultural tourism.
The second project, “Water Corridors of Culture”, starts from an idea that seas and rivers are a natural link through which trade and exchange of various goods were carried out in the past, explained Stefanovic.
She recalled that thanks to the Danube, Serbia is linked with the Black Sea region and added that these waters should be declared a joint basin through which knowledge and ideas could be shared.
The State Secretary also said that other countries started their programme activities, such as Turkey who began its “Wine Road” project to bring together culture and tourism.
It was concluded at the meeting that the newly-formed working group for tourism will considerably bring together the countries of the Black Sea region and BSEC members.
