Speaking at a press conference held at the Serbian government, the Minister said that the Ministry's priorities are the adoption of a new, modern law on sports and a national strategy for development of sports, preparation of amendments to the Law on prevention of violence at sporting events and the re-establishment of the Serbian Institute for Sports and preparation of an information system.
She specified that RSD 1,066,888 have been set aside in the budget for sports this year and underlined the importance of the Ministry's sector for projects management which will be administered by Assistant Minister for the projects management sector Slavisa Zlatanovic. The sector's main goal will be development of sports infrastructure, envisaged by the National Investment Plan, with this year's budget of approximately RSD 1 billion.
The Minister said that the Ministry will speed up the resolution of problems related to realisation of Universiade 2009 project, to be hosted by Belgrade. The Universiade's organisational board, chaired by Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, plans to hold a meeting soon.
