Welcoming visitors to the festival, Zivojinovic said that this is an historical evening for Serbian film and for Serbian culture. I see a great future for this festival he said and recalled that Novi Sad is already host to the successful festival of domestic drama and theatre “Sterijino Pozorje” and other cultural events.
Emir Kustruica’s film “Promise Me This” (Zavet) was screened to open the festival, and the audience included the director and the cast.
Earlier a collage of clips from the rich history of Serbian cinematography was shown.
During the six days long festival, all the feature films produced this year in Serbia will be shown, as well as a selection of the best documentary, short and animated films.
The event will be promoted through the new concept of Cinema City. The film and music content of the festival will be displayed throughout the streets and squares of the city, transforming the whole city into an arena for the film festival.
At the upcoming festival, which will last until July 8, the public will have an opportunity to see nine premieres of the newest domestic films.
In the competition category, “national class” nine domestic films will be screened which were shown in cinemas during the past year.
