State Secretary of Health Nevena Karanovic, Japanese Ambassador to Serbia Tadashi Nagai and Director of the Serbian Clinical Centre Vojko Djukic met today at the Serbian government to sign an agreement on a Japanese government donation, worth RSD 5.1 million, to the Neurosurgery Institute at the Serbian Clinical Centre.
Following the signing Nagai told a press conference that the Serbian Clinical Centre received 300 pieces of new medical equipment worth €2.7 million as part of the project themed “Procurement of Equipment of Leading Health Institutions in Serbia”.
He said that Japan’s one-off aid for the basic needs of the Serbian population from 1999, including this donation, stands at €4.9 million, whereas the total Japanese economic assistance to Serbia for the same period is €190 million.
Nagai recalled that the assistance included the procurement of tractors, 93 buses for Belgrade public transport, equipment of four clinical centres in Serbia, rehabilitation of the Bajina Basta hydro electric power plant and other forms of assistance.
Director of the Serbian Clinical Centre Vojko Djukic said that the centre has reached the level of leading international hospitals, adding that assistance is always welcome.
Director of the Neurosurgery Institute Miodrag Rakic said that the institute performs 15 surgeries a day, half of which are among the most complex procedures.
The donation will help procure more pieces of equipment for the Neurosurgery surgery and intensive care wards.
