Sergei Shoigu and Dragan Jocic
After signing the Memorandum of intentions in the cooperation in the field of natural disasters, technical incidents and their clean-up together with Russian Minister of Emergencies and Calamity Relief Sergei Shoigu, Jocic said that Russia has one of the best systems for responding to such situations.
According to Jocic, the Serbian government wants to make a state-of-the-art system that will provide the right response to emergency situations.
The Minister said that this is continuation of cooperation between the two ministries and the two countries in this field and voiced hope that Russia's ministry will be a good partner in forming the system for emergency situations in Serbia.
Jocic said that with the break-up of the former Yugoslavia, and then of the state union of Serbia-Montenegro, Serbia has been left without legislation that would regulate the reaction in case of earthquakes, floods and chemical and industrial accidents.
Jocic said that the concept of responding to such situations was based on the role of the military and civil protection, police, firefighters, climbers and added that the Serbian Ministry of Interior worked out a law that will join all services into one functional whole.
Jocic said that the Russian system for response to emergency situations, in view of the country's resources, size and the budget, is among the world's most modern and that owing to the prevention of natural disasters and technical incidents, 100,000 persons are saved every year.
